RV Insurance

Do you plan on hitting the road for a long road trip in your motorhome? Before you head out, consider getting RV insurance. The type of insurance you get will depend on the RV you own or are planning to buy.

Types of RVs and Motorhomes

There are seven main types of RVs:

  1. Class A Motorhomes: These are the largest RVs out there. They’re practically a home on wheels!
  2. Class B Motorhomes: These are small RVs, which are basically vans with some amenities.
  3. Class C Motorhomes: These midsize models are also referred to as “mini-motorhomes.”
  4. Fifth Wheels: These towable motorhomes can be attached to a truck using a fifth wheel hitch.
  5. Motorhome Bus Conversion: This is a bus that’s been converted to a motorhome.
  6. Travel Trailers: These motorhomes are towable and are attached via a trailer hitch.
  7. Truck Campers: These add-ons are attached to the truck bed.

What Does RV Insurance Do For Me?

RV or motorhome insurance will cover costs associated with repairing or replacing your RV following an accident. Liability coverage is a legal requirement in many states, covering property damage, legal fees and medical costs when you cause an accident. Many states also require that you have uninsured or underinsured motorist coverage, so that if you’re in an accident and the person who caused it doesn’t have adequate insurance, you’re still covered.

The type of insurance you purchase will depend on the motorhome type as well as how you use it. If you live in the RV full-time, you’ll need extra coverage. If you only use it for a few seasonal trips, you won’t need as much coverage. If you use the RV full-time and you keep personal belongings inside the vehicle, consider getting personal property coverage to protect your valuables.
